As mentioned in my book "Miracle Beginnings", I found the most precious time with my premmie babies was in the quiet moments of kangaroo care. To hold my precious babies skin to skin and feel their tiny heartbeat was a piece of heaven.
Emotionally, it gave me a sense of bonding, that I was missing as their mother. Physically, it was obvious how much my babies enjoyed our sessions. Oxygen levels would increase, Heart rate levels would stabalise, Body Temperture would be perfect and in that moment, they would be functioning as a normal baby.
I truly hope midwives are encouraging mothers with premmie babies to kangaroo hug every day. There were days when I thought it would not be possible with all the wires, complications, and tests. However, I was always hopeful and persistent with the midwives to let me have at least 20 minutes of Kangaroo Care time with my babies.
As a mother of a prem, its the best gift you can give your baby.
